When I was about five my mum quit her nursing job and became a business owner, opening a supermarket named after her sons. Long hours and incredibly hard work, managing suppliers and staff and customers, and traveling, all of this with little or no formal training in business.
I learned from my mum that I can do and be anything I want; that I can dream boldly and then go out to make them happen.
My mum has a boundless capacity for making friends, a gift for making people feel welcome and at ease.
I believe I inherited my father’s reserved nature, but it hasn’t stopped me from appreciating and occasionally trying to emulate my mum’s adroitness at making personal connections.
