Sad: Child Bride Kills Husband In Kano

This so sad, it is really disheartening that this teenager had to kill to save herself from a forced marriage. Wasila Umaru, a 14 year old in Kano has allegedly killed her 35-year-old husband, Umaru Sani, with a rat poison.  Here is how Skytrendnews reports it;

A 14-year old bride, Wasila Umaru, has allegedly killed her 35-year-old husband, Umaru Sani, and three others in Ungwar Maisoro, Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State, with a rat poison.

Wasili was reported to have added the poison to the food she served her husband and 14 of his friends.

ASP Musa Magaji Majiya who is the State public relations officer of  the Kano State Police Command, made the revelation at a press conference yesterday.

Majiya said the teenage bribe reportedly bought the rodent pesticide known in local parlance as Shinkafa Bera, at a village market for N8.

The unsuspecting husband and three of his friends were said to have eaten the poisonous food and gave up the ghost in the process.

Two of the friends, Nasiru Mohammed and Alhassan Alhassan of Yansoro Kademi, died on the spot, while the other female victim, Indo Ibrahim, lost her life at the hospital.

The ten others who ate the food alongside the deceased were treated and discharged at the hospital.

Wasila confessed to the act, justifying it on the ground of forced marriage to a man she didn’t love.

The Statement of ASP Magaji Majiya, Kano State Spokesperson reads in part:

“On 5/4/2014 at about 22;00hrs, an information was received at Gaya Division that one Wasila Umaru, 14 years old, of Yansoro Kademi, Gaya LGA, Kano, bought rodenticides (Shinkafa Bera) and diluted it into her husband’s food.

“The suspect confessed to the act and claimed that because she does not love her husband, she resorted to taking this option. Corpses were taken to hospital for examination. Investigation is on top gear.”
