Helen Titus is one of the few that survived the terrorist attack and massacre of over 140 students at a college in the Kenyan town of Garissa.
Helen first hid in the closet but she was found and brought out to join many other students that were being led into a community room. There the terrorist first gave them some Islamic teachings before they started killing the students’ one after the other, starting with the men.
“He was telling him, ‘shoot them, shoot them’,” she said she heard one of a terrorist saying.
Afraid of being shot, Helen smeared her body with the blood of a friend near her and she pretended to be dead.
“I just rubbed myself, soaked myself with that blood, and they skipped me” she told CNN at a makeshift center for evacuated students.
It has been reported that three more students have been found – one was found under a pile of bodies, another hid in a wardrobe, while the third student was found hiding in a bathroom.
