Aisha Buhari Talks About Her Husband’s Gender Sensitivity, Fair Representation Of Women, Sexual Harassment Of Female Students And More At Dinner

The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari and wife of the vice President, Oludolapo Osinbanjo hosted Nigerian women and youths at a dinner held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Hajiya Aisha Buhari made an open appeal to leaders in the different levels of government to be fair to women who have received appointments. She also noted that participation of women in government offices, particularly in National and State assemblies have reduced. She encouraged more women to take bold steps and participate in the future of the nation.

According to her, “We are not asking for equal representation but fair representation in governance. We must all make case for the fair representation of women and other challenges facing them especially the high rate of divorcees in the North and harmful widowhood practices in some part of the South East. Also, the issue of sexual harassment of female students in our tertiary institutions must be checked. My husband is a very gender sensitive man… He even allowed me to go to school and to cut the long matter short, he is the pillar of my success.”

“Nigerians are people with strong faith; we as women must wake up and defend its unity.” Mrs. Oludolapo Osinbanjo added, “It is time for us to stop fragmenting this country; Nigeria needs something new. A new Nigeria means a new You.”
