Banke Meshida Lawal is the CEO of leading make-Up group BMpro. BMPro is a multi-faceted business that boasts of a cosmetic makeup line of over 40 products, a training school, a beauty advisory and an online magazine.BM/Pro was derived from the name Banke Meshida Professional

Banke Meshida’s journey into being the influencer she is in the Nigerian beauty industry started over a decade ago in her university days in University of Lagos. According to her, it started out as a hobby- “I would wear makeup and people will ask me to help them out. I did that for strangers and friends without hesitation.”

Her skill at it made her turn it into a business upon graduation. Her decision to follow her passion soon began to pay off with a steady rise to prominence. She once admitted to not expecting this level of significance makeup artistry enjoys in Nigeria. According to her – “I didn’t even think makeup will get to the level it is now.”

Her expertise has warmed her into the heart of a lot of prominent clients- including first ladies and billionaire wives in the country. She has also won a plethora of awards- from Best Makeup Artist (The Nigerian Event Awards2012) to Makeup Artist of The Year (FAB AWARDS-2010) to Makeup Brand of The Year (ELOY AWARDS 2009) and many more. Earlier in this year Banke Meshida Lawal of BM-Pro was appointed as the governor of the Make-up Artists Guild of Nigeria. (MAGN)

Banke Meshida Lawal is not left out of the challenges of setting up a business in Nigeria, in an interview with a publication she said;

“You have management problems, rent, electricity supply, etc which are unstable. You would be using a property and the next thing is for the owner to increase the cost without justification.”

Her secret weapon in dealing with this is “to just switch off”. She opines that “If I cannot fix something at a particular time, I would just give myself a break and take that thing off my mind.”

Banke Meshida Lawal continues to be a force to reckon with in the Nigerian beauty industry. Her advice to those who want to be like her is to focus on being original. She insists that they should “focus on the arm of makeup they want to do and do it well. They shouldn’t try to be someone else because they can never be another.”
