4 Nigerian Scientists Awarded With Doctoral Fellowships At The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards

2015 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa fellows

 

2015 have been a big year for Nigerian women across many fields and industries. And in keeping with that theme,  The L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO have announced 4 Nigerian women as part of the recipients of the 2015 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Fellowships.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO program honoured 12 female scientists from across Sub-Saharan Africa for their work and impact in the sciences.

The Nigerian women honoured are:

– Rasheedat Mahamood  – University of Johannesburg, South Africa (Post-Doctoral Fellowship and 10,000 Euros)

– Olubokola Adenubi  – University of Pretoria, South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Olotu Ifeoluwa – University of Johannesburg, South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Majidah Hamid-Adiamoh – Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia and the University of Lagos,  Nigeria (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

 

Sandeep Rai, Managing Director of L’Oréal South Africa says:

“For the last 17 years, with the For Women In Science program, we have been fighting to advance the cause of women scientists worldwide. Much has been achieved: more than 2,000 women have been recognised worldwide, the program has gained recognition from the international scientific community, a springboard to enable women to go further and rise to greater heights. Science is part of our DNA and we are really proud of all the women who continue to make a difference in Africa through our program.”

– Jandeli Niemand- University of Pretoria, South Africa (Post-Doctoral Fellowship and 10,000 Euros)

– Nomvano Mketo – University of Johannesburg, South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Gaelle Kafira KO – Laboratory for Solar Energy and Energy Savings (LESEE), Burkina Faso (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Shobna Sawry- University of Witwatersrand, Institute of Reproductive Health and HIV, South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Jinal Bhiman – University of Witwatersrand,  South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Danielle Twilley – University of Pretoria, South Africa (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)

– Edith Chepkorir – International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Kenya (Doctoral Fellowship and 5,000 Euros)
