Suzy, a hairdresser in Lagos was at the Ikorodu Customary Court to dissolve her six-year-old marriage. Her reason for divorce? She said her husband has sexual weakness and that they were only having sex once in two months when they were living together. She knew he had this weakness before they got married but had hoped that he would change.
The nature of the weakness was not disclosed but the husband confirmed he has a sexual weakness but he believes it can be cured and it is not a reason good enough for his wife to leave him. The woman wants a divorce; she can no longer live in a sexless marriage.
Situations like the one above are very common in marriages. It is estimated that 1 out of 5 marriages are sexless; this may be due to low libido, sexual problems, sexual incompatibility etc,
Sex is very important in marriage, but is lack of enough sex strong enough reason to break up a family over? Is there a way to fix a marriage with sexual problems?
