Dakore Akande has always been a Nollywood sweetheart. She hit the limelight at a young age and did justice to every movie she appeared in. She went away for a while but then she came back like she never left.
In a recent interview with Pulse TV, she shares her thoughts on awards and offered some advice to artistes who feel marginalized.
On how she feels about getting awards
“It’s a feeling of validation. It’s a feeling of respect I think it means different things to different people. I’ve been fortunate to have won a few awards. It’s an amazing feeling.
Advice to colleagues
We have to be very careful. Sometimes awards are very political so you really should have a kind of fluid relationship with it. You have to know who you are. You shouldn’t need the award to validate your work especially if you are around people who you know are connoisseurs and won’t just tell you that you that you did a good job if you didn’t. So we have to be careful because sometimes you can struggle to win an award and then you win the award and it doesn’t do anything for your career. We have a lot of people who have won Oscars and their careers have just kind of nose-dived afterwards.
It’s wonderful to get an ward, it’s wonderful to get that respect amongst your peers and the public. But if for any reason, you are feeling kind of marginalized or whatever, just concentrate on your work and always do better”
