A 29-year-old Nigerian mother allegedly hired a man who has British citizenship to use his name on her baby’s birth certificate so they can later get a British passport for the baby. She is said to have paid him £1,000.
She told the Greenwich council officials that they lived at an address that was later found to be fake, she was actually living with the baby’s real father at Erith, having entered the UK illegally and facing deportation.
She may have gotten away with it, but unfortunately for her, the photos of the baby’s naming ceremony were shared on Facebook and the baby’s real father was seen cradling the baby.
The case is being heard at the Inner London crown court, they have both denied conspiracy to breach immigration law and giving false information when registering a birth.
The woman has been said to have refused to consent to a paternity test for the baby.
The trial continues.
