Wiscar Holds Annual Conference; Encourages Women To Embrace Leadership Positions


In a bid to continually create, inspire and motivate young women to engage in their vision for the future, Women in Successful careers (WISCAR) a not for profit organization, has successfully graduated another set of mentees through its annual Mentoring and Leadership program. The event, took place on Saturday 10th December 2016 at the Ace Olivia Hall City Mall Lagos, and addressed issues centered around the theme; Women Rising, Transforming Leadership.

In opening, the founder of WISCAR,Mrs. Amina Oyagbola congratulated outgoing mentees on their hard work during the rigorous one-year training in leadership, and welcomed new mentees. Speaking further, she reiterated that women should come together to empower and encourage each other in the society, and seek strategic ways to solve problems in their professional environment.

This year’s event had Dr. Mrs. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Deputy Governor of Lagos state give the goodwill address onwomen’s innate ability to provide transformational leadership driving growth and developmentin society.

Following this, Nigeria’s first female Rear Admiral, Itunu Hotonou, keynote speaker at the event gave a stirring speech on the importance of upholding personal integrity when challenging the status quo, and rising above arbitrary social stereotypes and limitations. “Being brave, ethical and above reproach are crucial in breaking the glass ceiling,” she said.

Finally, facilitated by Mrs.Oyagbola, a panel of individuals who dared to do things differently un-phased by the specter of rejection and failure discussed the path to leadership, and issues peculiar to women in today’s society. Panelists included Abiola Alabi, Bolanle Austen Peters and Hajara Adeola.


  • Abiola Alabi is the Founder and Managing Partner of Biola Alabi Media.The media icon was named one of the 20 Youngest Power Women in Africa by Forbes Magazine (2012), and CNBC Africa’s AABLA West African Business Woman of the Year (2013).


  • Bolanle Austen Peters is the founder and CEO of BAP Productions.She also established Terra Culture,a proudly Nigerian organization that is at the forefront of the promotion of Nigerian art and culture.


  • Hajara Adeola is the Managing Director of Lotus Capital Limited, a Nigerian pioneer in Shari’ah compliant Asset Management, Private Wealth Management Advisory Services and Financial Advisory Services.


WISCAR was founded to mitigate the under-representation of women in the upper reaches of both corporate and government institution and has made significant progress having successfully graduated over 100 young professional women who have undertaken the purpose built and intensive 12 month structured WIN with WISCAR mentoring programme.

In addition, WISCAR has helped to develop thousands of young and aspiring women through its high-quality training programmes, seminars & events put together by the WISCAR School of Excellence which provides structured competency based development for personal mastery and overall workplace effectiveness.
