From Starting A Twitter Account, To Writing For Top Magazines And Signing Book Deals – How Bunmi Laditan Turned Her Experiences With Her Toddlers Into Humour

Bunmi Laditan is a writer and mother of three living in Quebec. She is also the creator of the popular @HonestToddler twitter account and author of The Honest Toddler: A Child’s Guide to Parenting.

In a new city with no friends, Bunmi Laditan was bored as a stay-at- home mum and stressed by the demands of motherhood after she moved from California to Canada with her husband.

Out of her desire to do something fun while at home, she created a Twitter account @HonestToddler, in few days she had gathered 5,000 followers.

Six months into tweeting as @HonestToddler, Bunmi was approached by an agent in New York who asked if she was interested in writing a book.

She accepted the offer!

Interestingly, before she finished writing the proposal, an editor from the Orion Publishing Group in the UK said they were interested in her works, and offered a $100,000 advance payment.

A year after her first tweet ‘The Honest Toddler: A Child’s Guide to Parenting,’ was published in the UK followed by deals from the US and Australia.

Laditan, now a mother of three, is an award-winning author and speaker. TIME magazine called her one of the top 140 tweeters of 2013.

With over 400,000 Facebook fans and over 300, 000 twitter followers, she consults with brands looking for ways to jumpstart their social media effort, including Fortune 500.

Laditan has successfully built an online parenting community where parents, especially mothers, relate, unwind and, most importantly, find encouragement in the stories shared by others about their children.

So far, Laditan has written two books: The Honest Toddler, Toddlers Are Assholes and Confessions Of A Domestic Failure.
