Four Nigerian Women Who Have Recieved Grammy Awards And Nominations



Winning a Grammy award  is the dream of many entertainers as it is the world’s most respected entertainment award.

Here’s a list of Nigerian women who have been nominated and won  the prestigious award.


Her TEDxEuston speech, “We Should All Be Feminist,” which was featured in American singer, Beyonce’s song, ‘Flawless’ earned her a Grammy nomination for Album of The Year in 2015.


Sade Adu is the only  woman with Nigerian root who has won the Grammys. The English singer and songwriter together with her band has been nominated for 9 Grammy awards in total and has won 4.


Before joining Mavins Records and Roc Nations, Tiwa Savage was signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing as a songwriter. She co-wrote a song, Collardgreens  and Cornbread, which was nominated in the best R&B category at the 2011 Grammy



Also known as Kah-Lo, is the daughter of APC Chieftain, Demola Seriki. Although, she is not popularly known in Nigeria, she received her first Grammy nomination for the vocals on ‘Rinse & Repeat’ by British DJ, Riton last year.
