Ogo Maduewesi discovered a discoloration on her lips in February 2015, after series of hospital visits she was finally diagnosed with vitiligo at Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
Vitiligo is a pigmentation disorder in which the cells that make pigment in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. This can affect both young and old, both men and women, and even though it is not contagious, it can happen to anyone at anytime.
Although there are various ways to manage vitiligo, there is no really no cure. Also in Nigeria there isn’t so much support for people suffering from vitiligo, but Ogo Maduewesi is changing that with her Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation.
In an interview with Opuiyo Oforiokuma on Heart of the Matter, Ogo Maduewesi speaks more on vitiligo, and her own personal journey.
