Everything We Know So Far About The Death Of Kudirat Adebayo – A Widow And Mother Of Four Alledgedly Killed By Police Officer’s Stray Bullet

50 year-old Kudirat Adebayo was alledgedly killed by a stray bullet shot by some police officers from Olosan Police station last week.

The mother of four who was a widow and petty trader at Onipanu was said to be at her shed frying yam cake when the bullet hit her.

According to report by eyewitnesses,  policemen were trying to arrest some men that they suspected were fraudsters, one of them tried to escaped and the police started shooting to stop him. Kudirat Adebayo  was hit by a stray bullet.

The deceased’s elder sister Nimota Adebayo explained to the The Nation that her sister died instantly after she was hit by the bullet.

“She was sitting with her goods and I was beside her. Immediately I entered the shop and came out, I heard gun shots. Bullet hit her head and she died instantly. The two policemen that shot are Prince and Charles. She sells Ojojo. It is not that she interfered or left her shop. Immediately the officers fled our area and shot at the people who followed them. One of them is a guy called Sabina who challenged them was shot at leg. He was rushed to hospital. The deceased body has been taken to Isolo Mortuary. We were just together discussing her make-up and teasing her about whether there was an event today. She is about 50 years.”

Her son, Ayomide Adebayo, who has been calling for justice on social media via #justiceforkudi hashtag said to Naij:

“After her body had been deposited in the morgue, we went to Olosan police station where we met the DPO who assured us that there would be justice. Surprisingly a few hours later at about 10 pm, the DPO changed his earlier statement saying that it was street touts that must have killed my mother saying the number of bullets they gave the men who were on patrol at Onipanu (where my mother was killed) are still complete in their guns and no bullets were missing. He also said that TBoy did not sign for ammunition and he was off duty and that he must have used his own personal pistol to shoot my mother. Right now, TBoy is on the run. What we just need is justice”

It is believed that the officer who fired the shot is known as Tboy and has not been arrested yet.

There is no official statement from the NPF yet, although Twitter user, @chydee who reported the story on twitter said that the state’s commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni has visited the victim’s family.

Mrs Kudirat Adebayo has been laid to rest today.
