Bukola Ayinde, the Founder of P4:13 Foundation and author of Diary of a Special Needs Mum has shared how her three-year old daughter with cerebral palsy was battered by a physiotherapist called Bisola Anthonia Abayomi Ojo.
Bukola posted the video of the abuse her 3 year-old daughter went through in the hands of a physiotherapist.
She detailed this story in an article titled, “My Daughter with Cerebral Palsy Was Battered by the Therapist I Trusted” she wrote on Bellanaija.
According to her, the physiotherapist was recommended as a very good one but may come across as rude and arrogant but she was willing to work with her.
After some deliberations with her daughter’s school, they were allowed to use the sickbay for her physiotherapy session.
In June 2016, her daughter’s school proprietress showed her and her husband a CCTV recording which showed how the physiotherapist had been manhandling her daughter.
The physiotherapist hit her daughter’s head on the edge of a wooden bed before falling to the ground, also hitting her head on the tiles.
She slapped her three times; the third time with her cell phone. She left her head hanging upside for 5 minutes. She twisted her daughter’s hands several times; at a point she sat on her hands, at another point she tied her hands behind her head.
Her daughter fell from her chair while her neck was stuck in between the space at the vertical back rest and the flat wood used for sitting down. All the while, the physiotherapist was typing on her phone as she tortured the little girl.
When Bukola’s daughter was taken to her Neurologist, the doctor said the level of the damage to her brain could not be determined until a test was carried out.
The physiotherapist was arrested and reported to Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board.
As her punishment, her practicing license was withdrawn for three months; she was asked to work in a general hospital under supervision without pay for three months and undergo a psychiatric test.
Unknowingly to Bukola, the physiotherapist had gone back to the Registrar at Medical Rehabilitation Therapists to ask for permission to travel to USA to get treatment.
When Bukola checked on the case, she was told that the physiotherapist had travelled for treatment and not to worry because she could not practice anywhere else in the world without a letter from the board.
Some months later, she was told by a reliable source that she was not taking any major treatments but attending a Masters programme in US.
