Ese Odeka Ikpe was always down with one illness or the other and always in and out of the hospital. So much that her mother prayed that God should take her because she couldn’t bear seeing her daughter in pain.

Although she had many near-death experiences, Ese kept declaring that she would not die. Today, she has an 18-year old son and a 13-year old son.

Ese explained that the pain from sickle cell could not be compared with labor pain because, at a point, she couldn’t walk with her two legs because of pains in her bones.
