15-Year Old Whitney Osuigwe Is Carving A Niche For Herself In Junior Tennis




A US-born tennis player of Nigerian descent, Whitney Osuigwe, is a carving a niche for herself in the Tennis world.

According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings, Whitney is the No. 1 girls junior player in the world.

After she won the French Open girls’ title in June, Whitney became the first American girl to win the junior singles title in Paris in 28 years.

The 15-year old, who started playing tennis since she was 6-years old, attends and trains at IMG Academy, where her Nigerian father, Desmond Osuigwe works as a coach.

She became successful at the game this year and is one of nine Americans in the second round out of the 32 players overall remaining.

Osuigwe, who went to the Wimbledon Championships as the No. 2 seed, was outplayed and lost to a colleague.

It was Osuigwe’s first appearance at Wimbledon and only her second grass court tournament.
