Two pregnant women, Violet Mbala Ekor and Helen Isieg, who chose to deliver their children at the house of one prophetess Maria have died.

The women, who completed their ante-natal care in a Primary Health facility died within 24 hours from each other.

CROSSRIVERWATCH reported that Prophetess Eka had always preached against health facilities saying evil spirits occupied them.

One of the women, Helen Isieg, who was delivering her fourth child, died on Wednesday after delivery having suffered post-partum hemorrhage.

Her baby also died shortly after her.

A friend of Helen explained that Helen had gone to church when labor started and she was advised to stay back but when things got complicated the traditional birth attendant called the health officer at the health center who told them to take her to the clinic but they did not until she died on Wednesday morning.

The second woman, Violet Ekor, was said to have registered at the health facility, which was just 30 seconds away from her home but decided to go to the said prophet.

She died around 12:00 AM on Thursday after delivering a baby girl on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the prophet, Eka Maria said she was trained in a church to deliver women and denied telling the women to stay away from health centers.

“I was trained in my church, the Apostolic church on how to attend to women in labor. It is a gift from God. When there are challenges, I call Nurse Juliet and Nurse Rose to come and attend to them but I don’t tell them not to go to health centers as they always go for ante-natal there but only come here for delivery.”

She explained that she employs the help of professionals when there is a crisis, sadly, she was referring to community health practitioners who were volunteers in some health facilities.

She said she had no idea how many women had delivered successfully in her house, with no records of death.

She explained that she advises the women to fast so that they could see the vision as they attend a ministration service every Wednesday.
