Ugonna, the wife of 46-year old Nicholas Nwonye, who was killed in a random attack in Canada said she is still finding it hard to believe that her husband is no more.
Nicholas was killed in a random stabbing attack on a Calgary C-Train platform in early June, by a 39-year-old man with an extensive criminal record.
CBC reported that Ugonna and her husband had moved to Canada from Nigeria eighteen months ago, in search of a better life for their three children.
Nicholas, who left his job in Nigeria as a geophysical engineer had been working two jobs to support his family while taking nursing courses at Bow Valley College.
Just four weeks into his program at the nursing school, Nicholas, while returning home from school was attacked.
Despite the tragedy, Ugonna said she doesn’t regret moving to Calgary because the family had sacrificed so much to get there.
According to her, she would carry on with the dreams she shared with her husband.
“The truth of the matter is I’ve not even accepted that he’s dead. I find it so hard to believe that. Every day I still look at my door, that he will open the door, walk in. I don’t even know how to deal with it. It’s something I’ll live with. I’ll continue to remember him every day of my life.” she said
A GoFundMe page has been set up by fellow students from Bow Valley College in Nwonye’s name.
