Renowned FGM Campaigner Faces Questioning About Her Qualifications

A well-known Nigerian FGM campaigner, Comfort Momoh, is presently under investigation in the UK.

Comfort, who recently retired as a midwife in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Trust in London, founded one of UK’s first FGM clinic and has been awarded an MBE for her services in women’s health.

However, a BBC report found that Comfort may have overstated her qualifications and that she has referred to herself as Dr. Momoh, when she is not a qualified medical doctor.

Although, she has an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University, a university spokesperson said it does not give her the right to use the title.

Despite not having the appropriate qualifications, they believed Comfort has examined children for FGM on at least five occasions.
