“This Is Not Leadership, Sir” – Oby Ezekwesili Says To The President Over His Silence On The Death Of 26 Nigerian Teenage Girls Found In The Mediterranean Sea

Former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili has called out President Muhammadu Buhari‘s silence over the death of 26 Nigerian teenage girls found in the Mediterranean sea.

A Spanish warship, Cantabria, rescued 375 migrants and the dead women, whose bodies were kept in a refrigerated section of the warship.

BBC reported that investigations are ongoing to know if the girls, who are between the ages of 14 and 18 were sexually abused.

It was reported that the girls may have been murdered as they tried to cross the Mediterranean sea.

Most of the 375 survivors are reportedly from Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, The Gambia and Sudan. Among them were 90 women, eight of them pregnant and 52 children.

Sadly, the president is yet to make a comment on the incidence.

Ezekwesili tweeted,

@MBuhari Shocking that you personally have not acknowledged that 26 of the Citizens that you are their President drowned in the Mediterranean Sea and the whole world is talking about it. This is NOT LEADERSHIP, Sir. #EveryCitizensLifeMatters.

@MBuhari It is CALLOUS for any Leadership to NEVER feel the pains that tragedies bring the way of a people. Can your FG @AsoRock signal to the Nigerian Public that #NigerianCitizensLivesMatter? Can YOU?

I recall our public outrage when during the previous administration, then President rather than acknowledge deaths in a bomb blast tragedy was busy at a Campaign Ground. This FG of Pres @MBuhari NOW REPEATS SAME with our 26 girls that drowned in Mediterranean Sea. What Changed??

This heart wrenching news is sadly worsened by the SHODDY manner parents of the deceased would find out. God pls comfort them
