Following their qualification for the bobsled event at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga appeared as guests on the Ellen DeGeneres show, where they talked about the sport.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is an American television comedy talk show hosted by comedienne/actress Ellen DeGeneres.
Clearly excited to be on the show, the women discussed how much qualifying for bobsled event meant to them.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic. I can’t believe just getting down at the end of the fifth race in qualifying and being like ‘oh my god,’ like I literally couldn’t breathe,” Seun Adigun said.
Although they live in Houston, Texas, the women explained that they represent Nigeria because their parents are from there.
Even though many Nigerians do not understand what the sport is about, the women said they have being very supportive.
“Everybody’s going absolutely nuts,” Seun said, speaking about the reaction of Nigerians to their qualification. “You know, the crazy thing about it is most people don’t really understand what bobsled is. Like some people are like, this is bobsledge. Some people are like …. I mean they are creating all kinds of things but they don’t care. They just know that the flag is raising high and they are excited about it.”
