The 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics started yesterday, 9th of February, with the opening ceremony, which celebrated the cultures of the countries competing at the event and it was interesting to see Nigeria represented.
The bobsled team, Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga, together with Simidele Adeagbo, Nigeria’s first female skeleton athlete was adorned in the nation’s colour.
Bobsled athlete Akuoma Omeoga is the bearer of Nigeria’s flag as the country makes its debut at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
The women alongside Gbenga Elegbeleye, former Director-General, National Sports Commission, was captured moving the flag in a match past during the opening ceremony at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.
The 2018 Winter Olympics set a record for the largest number of competitors, with a total of 2,925 athletes from 92 countries and regions taking part in the event.
Eight African countries will be represented at the games, which is the most African participants in the history of the Winter Olympics. The Games will end on February 25.
