Updates On The 112 Pro-Biafra Women Arrested and Detained for Having a Peaceful Protest In Imo State

The Nigeria Police Force has released the 112 pro-Biafra Imo women, who were arrested during a protest in Owerri, Imo State.

They were arrested during a peaceful protest on the 17th of August, while demanding the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. Kanu has not been seen in public since IPOB had a clash with Nigerian soldiers in Abia, last year.

The women were arraigned at a Magistrate Court by the Police, and charged with “treasonable felony” and “unlawful assembly.” Following their continued detention, concerned Nigerians who condemned their incarceration called for their release, using the different social media platforms at their disposal.

A High Court sitting in Owerri, granted their bail request and ordered their immediate release on Friday, August 24, 2018.
