Dear sisters and friends,
We all have dreams.
And sometimes those dreams are soo big that even to you; the dreamer, it seems impossible to achieve.
Such is the case with me.
And Female IN (FIN).
I was at home in Chicago when news broke that armed men had stormed a school in Nigeria and kidnapped 276 girls. That single tragic event took away my peace. I grew up in my much-loved Nigeria so I found this particularly haunting that after that day, it became a real struggle for me to sleep through the night. The nagging thought on my mind: Those girls could have been my daughters… and I felt responsible to do something.
Even if I was the only one.
I was ready to stand alone.
It has been only three years since that first day in September of 2015 and as we have all witnessed together, it has been win after win after win for what started as one petite woman’s ambitious mission TO END THE CULTURE OF SILENCE.
For me and the great women of our admin team (past and present), the sacrifices have been HUGE.
Time, emotional, intellectual and spiritual.
I have even shut down my business which took more than 10 years to build to take the fulltime leap and give the focus needed to empower women to see themselves as the ninjas we are!
And yes, each and every one of 1.7 MILLION plus FINsters are extraordinary.💃🏽
Today it is with total humility that I am announcing to you… Facebook has selected me as one of just over 100 beneficiaries of the Facebook Community Leadership program. This means I will receive training AND funding to go toward bringing my big big mission project to life
I am overcome with emotion (crying really!) – not just because the world believes in what women can achieve but because it believes in us ENOUGH to invest in our future.
Dear FINsters, YOUR courage in the face of adversity and doubt makes FIN work. Congratulations to us!!!
♥ Share our victory. #FINMILLION
