Before the accident that claimed one of her legs, her dad already saw it in a dream but the dream didn’t note that she was going to be the victim.
On the day of the incidence, Doris Akonanya was asked to stay at home and take care of her younger siblings, but she followed her elder sister, who was asked to go to the shop. As they were about to cross a highway, Doris was hit by a bike and a leg was broken. The leg was eventually amputated.
Thinking she had lost her dreams of becoming an actress alongside her legs, Doris was sad. One day, she came across a book by Nick Vujicic, an Australian Christian evangelist and motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of arms and legs.
That encounter changed her life as she believed that she could be all she wanted. She gained admission at the university to study Theatre Arts and many of her colleagues wondered what she was there for.
She proved them wrong as she partook in many of the stage performances required of a Drama student. Upon graduation, she went for auditions and soon landed the lead role in a movie.
