Nikki and Lola Ogunnaike on Pushing Themselves to Dream Bigger and Being Each Other’s Cheerleader

Having a relationship with one’s sibling is a beautiful thing. Although, it may not look beautiful during childhood but as one grows and matures, the relationship blossoms and you realise the essence of sisterhood.

Nikki and Lola Ogunnaike are sisters. They are also in the same industry with Nikki being ELLE.com’s style director and Lola, a journalist and TV correspondent.

In a chat with Elle US, the women talked about how they share both a personal and professional bond. With support and advice for each other, the sisters remind each other to celebrate their successes, however little it is.

As daughters of immigrants, every achievement is celebrated because they worked hard for it. Moreover, the fact that they are a representation of  both their family and Nigeria, keeps them on their feet. As they celebrate their successes, the women treat themselves to something nice, which is a reminder of how great they are doing and how far they’ve come.

“There is this belief that women have to wait for diamonds to be purchased for them, you can purchase your own diamonds and you don’t have to wait till your wedding day to purchase them. Everyday can be your own celebrations,” Nikki said, encouraging women to acknowledge their hard-work by self-gifting.
