Alake Pelumi is a Geography&Planning graduate of the University of Lagos. She is the CEO of Curvypink, a  platform created to challenge the status quo of what the society thinks beauty, body confidence and positivity should look like.

Curvypink also creates beautiful fashion pieces while encouraging plus-size women to feel beautiful regardless of what the society says the standard of beauty should be.

She answers our HOT questions below:

What’s one thing that’s happened to you that has made you stronger? 

People who were closer to me, looked down on me like I was doing absolutely rubbish. That was what made me stronger to prove them wrong, and I did prove them wrong.

If you can say one thing to your 18 year old self, what will it be?

I wish I could go back to my 18 year old self and edit a lot of people and cut them off. I wish I could explore and I get to know incredible things I know now. I wish I created Curvy Pink earlier when I was younger and I didn’t let body shaming get to me.

If you don’t have to worry about making money, what would you do all day?

Plus-size modelling, I love taking pictures a lot!

Would you like to be famous? In what way?

Yes. Plus-size women influencer, plus-size modelling. I want to be a mirror to a lot of plus-size women, I want to inspire plus-size women to love their body regardless of what society think of us.

What do you consider the most beautiful thing about your personality?

Contentment. I am always satisfied with what I have.

 Would you rather explore space or the deep sea? Why?

Deep sea into the ocean, I want see the beautiful world under the water.

What is the one compliment that people always seem to give you?

I love your dress sense, I love your body confidence, I love your shape.

Do you believe in miracles? Have you ever experienced one? Please share

Yes I do. I am a living miracle, God has really touched and bless me this year. God has open doors for me this year.

Is there something that you’ve dreamt of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it?

Traveling out of Nigeria (adventure). I guess funds haven’t made me do what I dreamt of doing. Like I said earlier, I am always contented with what I have. I don’t go beyond my capacity.

What would make you leave someone you love?

Greediness, self-centeredness, unfaithfulness. Love is not greedy and unfaithful Love is beautiful.

When was the last time you complimented a complete stranger? What did you say?

Today, Femi bakre (Ceo krakstv).  I went to krakstvfest18 and I actually met him for the first time I had to compliment him for being deferential/humble.

Who is the strongest woman that you personally know? And why?

My mother. She fought her way for me through university, even though she never attended any university, she wanted me to attend one. She is my strongest back bone .

What is the most annoying thing you have heard people say about women in Nigeria?

Every woman is a slut. I literally feel sad whenever I hear that statement.

What is the one important thing about being a woman that you would want your daughter to know?

Phenomenal woman. I will always teach her the Maya Angelou poem. You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still like air ‘I rise ‘

If you have the power to fix one thing in Nigeria, what will it be and WHY?

Not too young to rule law. If young people with new ideas can rule Nigeria, Nigeria would be better.

If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year old, which would you choose?

I would prefer the body of a 30 years. Having the mind of a 30 years at 90 years, I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things physically.

Would you be willing to have horrible nightmares for a year if you would be rewarded with extraordinary wealth for a life time? Why or Why not?

No, peace of mind and happiness matters a lot.

If you could wake up tomorrow having gained one special quality or ability, what would it be?

Super woman. The ability to change a lot  of things, the ability to fight for homeless children on the street, the ability to fight for women.

If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know? Why or why not?

My future is certain, written by my creator. I would love to know my future husband, I need to know what that amazing man looks like.

If you had the opportunity to learn exactly what every person in your life really thinks about you, would you take it? Why or why not?

No I don’t want. Their opinion about me is not going to count so why should I even listen to them.

If you had to give up one of your limbs in exchange for there being a cure for cancer, would you do it?

Yes I will.

If someone paid you a million dollars to wear the same exact outfit every day for the rest of your life, would you do it?

No I won’t, because I express myself with what I am good at, which is dressing everyday, inspiring plus-size women to have confidence in whatever outfits they wear.

If you could have a conversation with any type of animal in the world, what would you choose? What will you say?

Cheetah, the fastest land animal. I want to have the strength and speed of a Cheetah. The speed to make things better, the strength to change the world.
