Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin makes Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2018 List

Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin has been named one of CNN’s 10 Heroes of 2018!

Her Pearls Africa Foundation is a social enterprise that promotes the cause of vulnerable young girls through technology, entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and internship placements.

Abisoye left her career to teach computer programming to girls in Lagos. A 2013 survey found that less than 8% of Nigerian women are employed in professional, managerial or technology jobs and Abisoye hopes to change that statistic.

Since 2012, Abisoye’s group has helped more than 400 disadvantaged girls to gain the technical skills and confidence they need to transform their lives. Through the foundation’s free GirlsCoding program, girls get training in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python and Scratch and visit tech companies to help them visualize themselves joining the industry.

According to CNN, each Hero will receive a $10,000 prize. The “CNN Hero of the Year” will receive an additional $100,000. The “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” will air live on Sunday, December 9, where Abisoye, alongside other 9 heroes will be celebrated.

Please vote for her here to become the hero of the year.
