Genevieve magazine publisher, Betty Irabor has taken mental health awareness to the runway as she launched her clothing line, Dew Collection, at the just-concluded Lagos Fashion Week. This is just four months after the release of her book, “Dust to Dew” which detailed her battle with depression and how she overcame it.

Away from the sad and dark life of depression, Betty Irabor made sure that the collection displays a burst of colours.  “..I wanted these collection to be an expression of life and living ..a burst of hallelujah choruses .. happy, welcoming, Dewy, fiercely fun and set to light up any run way!!” she wrote on her Instagram page.

Betty Irabor teamed up with 12 designers to create the Dew Collection, which celebrates the beauty of life and living.

On the inspiration behind the Dew Collection, Betty Irabor wrote on her Instagram page,

“It all started four months ago after the successful release of my book “Dust to Dew”. In no time at all and in spite of all the victory dance of a successful book release I found my self hungry for something more and in my typical way of feeling a sense of trepidation before any new project I decided “what do I have to lose anyways?” Here we are with the Dew Collection for mental health awareness.

I believe one of our biggest strengths come from turning our travails into triumphs by sharing our stories to save others. We should never allow our pains to go to waste by not saving others from the same fate. Hopefully, as we all feel liberated enough to talk about our battles with mental health we unveil the secrecy surrounding it and then fight the stigma.”

Morning has broken!! This evening at the Lagos Fashion Week we take Mental Health awareness to the runway while still deploying all our Genevieve platforms to creating awareness for this mind disorder that is mental health. In 2005, Genevieve Magazine birthed The Pink Ball for Breast cancer advocacy. It was a First! Many distinguished ladies strutted the run way for breast cancer cause. It was epic. Never seen before event. Fashion for a cause is all about coating serious health causes in fashion to get the message out there. It does not take away from the seriousness of the subject. This evening, Dew Collection by Betty will show case some very bold, fire ball pieces with fabrics by our Sponsor @patrickayanski and co sponsors/designers who threw their awesome weight behind this cause. I believe one of our biggest strengths come from turning our travails into triumphs by sharing our stories to save others. We should never allow our pains to go to waste by not saving others from the same fate. Hopefully, as we all feel liberated enough to talk about our battles with mental health we unveil the secrecy surrounding it and then fight the stigma. Once again, I thank you all for your love and look forward to seeing you as we unveil the Dew collection. Funmi…Nations will look for and find you!!! I met Funmi, Owner of Patrick Ayanski @patrickayanski fabrics about 4 months ago through Mai Atafo @maiatafo! Never heard of her or even her brand even though I have 2 of her laces in my closet. I told her I wanted her to sponsor a collection I hoped to birth for Lagos Fashion Week to create more awareness for mental health! And she just smiled.. “Nothing will give me more pleasure auntie Betty, I know you and really admire you”. She said. “It was so easy, too easy” I thought .. Right there we began to rub minds on this project. As she lives in Dubai and commutes btw London and Lagos we communicated on WhatsApp. At a stage I got really overwhelmed and tried to opt out of this impulsive decision to showcase at lfw but Funmi would not hear of it. It had become her project! She had become infected with a vision that held no promises of success. She became the driver! She flew into Lagos almost on a weekly basis and took the 12 designers briefs and went to work on designing, creating and producing the Dew fabrics. I told her Depression was dark and sad and I wanted these collection to be an expression of life and living ..a burst of hallelujah choruses .. happy, welcoming, Dewy, fiercely fun and set to light up any run way!! She gave us just that in all forms of laces and then there was voile, soft and hard scuba, taffeta, jacquard and more. She was so EXTRA with her generosity and never complained! I looked back at the years of The Pink Ball and the trauma of dealing with organizations for sponsorship and the let downs and here is one woman taking on so much for another woman for a cause for humanity!! Imagine if more women stood in the gap like this?? Imagine if we made it easier for one another just because we could? Thank you Funmi.. nations that you do not know will look for and find you! Please patronize @patrickayanski .. they have amazing collection of fabrics. If you can think it, they will create it.. Show this woman some love please❤️. #dew#dewcollection #mentalhealthawareness #depression#fashioncause#lagosfashionweek #winningwomen#womenempowerment Betty is wearing @maiatafo for Dew collection
