Anrette and her sister in-law, Rosette had always talked about tattoos but Anrette has never told her why she had one on her neck. Anrette’s sister had died by drowning and since grief isn’t an easy subject to talk about, she carried the burden alone. Infact, she became depressed over it.

“I was very close to her and it was like part of me went. I couldn’t imagine a life without her,” Anrette shared.

After grieving for a long time, Anrette felt she needed to let go of the pain and the only thing she felt comfortable doing is to tattoo her sister’s name on her neck. That way, she feels that she is still with her.

“I needed to do something. Not just any meaningless thing but something that I was going to carry that when I look at myself, I knew that she was always there,” she said.

Although, she had stopped grieving, whenever Anrette visited the beach where her sister drowned, she is pained and feels that her sister left too soon. As part of dealing with the pain, she sat with her sister in-law at the bank of the beach, and let her in on what she had been going through.
