The video of media personality, Lolo Cynthia saying she would not take on the name of her spouse except it would open doors for her has started a debate online. Lolo shared a snippet of the video on her social media pages.

“I will not change my name unless the person I’m with has a status that if I’m associated with that name, it opens doors for me” she said.

A woman is expected to take on the identity of her husband by legally changing her last name but Lolo insists that she would do that only when it is beneficial for her. She explained that the same goes for men, who shouldn’t be bothered about taking on the surnames of their wives if it would be beneficial to them.

According to Lolo, she is not trying to put any man down but she is just being smart about using her husband’s influence and social status to her advantage. As expected, Lolo’s statement generated a lot of conversation online. While some people applauded her for her opinion, some think it is unrealistic and demeaning for the man.

According to the people who do not see Lolo’s statement as a problem, they revealed that people get married for different reasons, noting love to be just one out of them.

Every individual is entitled to say what he/she wants to but insluting an individual does not pass a massage. To the lady in question or those who have this concept of marriage are you also a blessing to who you will marry or will your name open door as well?

She’s not asking him to take her name, so whether her name opens doors or not is not an issue here.

Foolish philosophy, pls dont contaminate our young girls with this nonsense u re feeding your mind with. Someone whose father’s name has not opened any door for does not want to adopt another man’s name. Even guys these days want to marry ladies who will be of blessing to them.

Women! She said ‘I will not take a man’s name’ not ‘women should not take a man’s name if it won’t open doors’. You don’t want your daughters to follow this, teach them not to, don’t insult her.

Says so much about us if the only thing we could reply her with insults. Salam!

All the insults, I went back to read it again to be sure she did not say she will not take their husbands’ name. Women always attacking each other over things that are none of their business to start with.
