Nadine Ijewere Becomes The First Black Woman To Shoot A Vogue Cover

Nigerian-Jamaican photographer, Nadine Ijewere, whose work focuses on identity and diversity has become the first black woman to shoot a Vogue cover.

Nadine shot global pop star, Dua Lipa for the magazine’s first issue of 2019.

Last year, Nadine captured men’s and women’s wear for the #Stellaby series in collaboration with top English fashion designer, Stella McCartney. She also recently photographed Rihanna for the cover of Allure.

On her shoot, Vogue said,

“….. Nadine Ijewere – who, with her portrait of global superstar Dua Lipa (herself a remarkable game changer) has become the first black woman ever to shoot a Vogue cover…..”

If you had told me last year I would have photographed for @britishvogue I would have said not possible , if you had told me a cover I would have thought perhaps in a parallel universe ! I am so so grateful for this opportunity I have been given to shoot for a publication where I once felt perhaps I didn’t belong . Thank you @edward_enninful for your part in changing the industry giving people like me the opportunity to exist in such a prestigious space .
