Every good parent wants the best for their children. They want their children to have the money, security and opportunities they never had and Nigerian parents are not in any way different. As a result, they go all out to make sure that their children are successful.

From the way they bring up a child, to the course of study at the university, or who they should marry, Nigerian parents pride themselves in knowing better.

10 years ago, Nigerian, US-based travel blogger, Gloria Atanmo’s parents wanted her to study medicine. According to them, medicine was one of the ‘real’ jobs that can make anyone successful.

So, for three years, she decided to do what her parents wanted but she wasn’t happy doing it. After failing the first time in her life, she realized that she ought to please herself and God.

“All those years doing nothing but trying to make them happy, what will I be left with when they’re gone?” was the question that made Gloria decide to live the life she wanted.

So, Gloria bought a camera, started a travel blog and took a semester to study abroad. After working hard for five years, she earns a six figure income from doing what she loves. With a career in travelling and story-telling, Gloria is inspiring others to chase their dreams.

Although, she is a college graduate of graphic design and mass media, Gloria has used her passport more than her degree. Even though she’s doing well as a travel blogger, her parents still want her to be a doctor but Gloria thinks that one’s happiness is worth pursuing.
