Self Hate? Self Esteem Issues? Toke Makinwa Asks “What’s All The Fuss About?”

Few weeks ago, the #10YearChallenge was trending online and our favorite celebrities joined in by sharing a throwback photo of themselves taken 10 years ago and another taken recently. There were some huge changes in the before and after pictures of some celebrities and they got called out for it. One of such was media personality, Toke Makinwa.

In a new episode of her vlog, titled, “Self hate? Self Esteem Issues?? What’s all the fuss?” Toke shares her views on self-hate/self-esteem comments that people keep talking about when it comes to skin lightening.

According to her, the video is for people who might be going through a phase in their lives right now where they are feeling shamed as a result of things they’ve done at some point in the past or those who are not bold enough to take that step and own certain things.

So, I posted a picture from 15 to 17 years ago and I made CNN and everyone was talking about it, saying, “oh my God, she lightened her skin,” and I felt that nobody can shame me this year because I have owned my shame and shamed myself because I wrote about it in my book.

At one point in my life, I liked this boy who I would do absolutely anything for. And we’ve all be there. We all know how you’ve been in love with someone and that love was like it was about to take over your life and you would do certain things in that time.

Everyone has one thing or the other that they are not so proud of. Some people call it self-esteem issues, some call it self-hate but I hate the word, self-hate. We all have self-esteem issues if we are all going to be honest. At some point in my life, my height used to really bother me but I realized that there’s really nothing I can do about it. so, I’ve grown out of that phase and I’ve gone on to embrace the fact that I’m always going to be brief, I’m always going to be tiny but I am as well going to be a bum ass tiny cheek.

And if we are open to the inventions of technology like we are excited about phones and how tiny the sim cards are now, why are we not open to the inventions of science and medical science.

If you are someone who wants to get a boob job for yourself, or you want to get any part of your body enhanced, don’t let anybody shame you into those choices because the same God that gave scientists the brain to invent certain things like your phones and sim cards is the same God that gave the medical doctors the brain to find new ways to make the body better.

And it so funny how we are great judges when it comes to other people’s issues and we’re the biggest advocates when it’s ours. We find us making excuses for our own.

I heard about someone who was coming on another person for lightening her skin and this girl had implants and I felt like “girl, you got your boob done and you’re coming at someone who lightened their skin. When you get to heaven’s gate, are you not going to be judged the same way?”

I disagree with her opinion totally. We are beautifully and wonderfully made by God himself.
Because u ‘ve a lil cash u get ideas that you ‘re not satisfied with ur looks! Are we now saying that God is not perfect? he created us and was satisfied with his hand work.

Your god is nothing but perfect, if he created anyone which I strongly know he didn’t

Madam Toke. I have always known she is obsessed everything the Kardashians represent. Who cares Its her business if she gets any part of her body enhanced. But pls do not make others feel inferior or the need to get body jobs.
