19-Year Old UNILAG Student Recounts How She Was Gang Raped By Fellow Students And Blackmailed With A Video

A 19-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Miss B (name withheld) has recounted before a Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court, how she was allegedly gang-raped by eight fellow students and blackmailed with a video recording of the assault.

Miss B, who was 17-years-old when the incident happened, told the court that her friend and roommate, Peace Nwankaba, lured her to be gang raped.

Recounting the incidence, Miss B said that Peace called her on the phone one day in 2017 and asked if she wanted to hang out with another boy called Yinka (now at large) at High Rise, which is a staff quarters hostel at UNILAG, but  she said she would think about it.

Barely 5 minutes later, Peace called again but this time, Yinka spoke with her, assuring her that it was only a hangout and Peace would be there. Miss B agreed and they all decided to meet at Jaja Hall, a male hostel. But when she got there, she met Yinka and another boy, James and was told that Peace was at High Rise and would join them later.

Then, she was led to a small building behind High Rise where she met Seriki (who is now at large) and a group of boys.

“James led me up a flight of stairs and we got into a room, there were boys outside the corridor because some of the boys who were downstairs had come upstairs. I entered the room with Seriki and James but Yinka stayed outside. When I entered, I met two boys and a girl, Emmanuel (who is also at large) and Josephine (the fifth defendant). James and Seriki then entered the room, Josephine and the two boys left and at that point it was clear to me that Peace was not in High Rise.

Yinka then asked me to have sex with him, I said no but he continued forcefully persisting and removing my clothes at that point. Two other persons who were looking into the room entered and held me down while Yinka had forceful sex with me. In no particular order, the following took their turns – Daniel, James, Yinka, Bolu (first defendant), Seriki, Emmanuel and two other people who I don’t know their name. They were eight men”, she narrated.

Following the gang rape, the boys collected her number and threatened to make her popular in school by releasing the sex tape if she doesn’t answer them whenever they call her for sex. A week after the incidence, the boys called her and gang raped her on more than two occasions. They also invited four other boys who also joined in the evil act.

Soon, Miss B started hearing rumours of the sex tape and the narrative was as though she wanted it.

Henry, a friend of Peace, saw the video and reported to the school authorities. On March 1, 2017, Henry took Miss B to see the school counselor, who promised that the school would help her get justice. Sadly, the parents of the arrested students tried soliciting Miss B not to do anything about the case.

Thank God the matter is now in Court
Only God knows the number of females gangraped and blackmailed to silence in our universities.

The rapists including the accomplices should be brought to book.

17years old had to go through all this. So sad she is never going to be the same again. If only parents will allow kids grow older before releasing them to go stay in hostels. This is only one story out of a thousand out there. I pray they bring all the culprits to justice.
