Dr. Annetu Ayuba, the mother of a boy attending the Abuja school for the deaf in Kuje has raised an alarm over the abuse of the boys in the school.
Both Annetu and her mother Hajia Salamotu Abubakar claimed on Brekete (a breakfast programme on Human Rights radio) in Abuja that their boy, Imran, who attends the school has been molested.
According to Hajia Salamotu, two days after he got home when the school closed for the term, Imran told her through sign language, that he doesn’t want to go back to his school because he would die.
The grandmother said, he started demonstrating to us that when they sleep at night, they are woken up and tied and sodomised. That they did it many times to him that it was so painful. That blood would be pouring, that his back is paining him and his head is paining him. Then he started demonstrating that they take them out at night to somewhere with many boys.
That their master is tall and he climbs something to address them. That they kill people there and then he demonstrated how they kill. He demonstrated the three ways that they kill.
That they turn the head or they cut the throat or they pull the head and sever the head at the neck. That there is fire and they roast human being there. He went round the house to look for gloves. He said that one is a different kind of glove that the man will use. He said there is knife and there is fork and that they will cut the roasted human flesh and the boys including him will have their hands behind and the man will feed everybody with that meat.
He said anytime they bring it near him, he will start vomiting and they will hit him. He counted on his fingers, six times they tried to feed him and he was vomiting and they kept hiting him and his head now is paining him.
Back in school, he tried to tell the class teacher but they told him that if he dares tell anybody, they will kill him. And then he showed us his arm, where they drew blood with a big syringe and they put it in a cup and the master drinks it”.
Continuing from where her mother, who is the grandmother of Imran stopped, Dr. Annetu said that
“..because he was always vomiting everytime they brought the human flesh to him, the master asked him to be taken away and they drove a nail to his forehead where he started bleeding and that the master swirled him and threw him away. He said he hit his head and he started crying. He said the school father took him away and laid him on his bed and he slept off.
He said when they are in pain and crying, they will use handkerchief and pour something and press it on their nose, so, he sleeps off. In the morning, the school father took him to the sick bay and said there was a fight. That Imran touched the socks of a retarded boy who hit him with a belt. The teacher even called me but this boy told us that it’s a lie that what happened was in that place.
Then he said the seniors dip their penis into his mouth up till the throat that when he vomits semen, they will take plank and hit his head and tell him that he must swallow. He said it happens to all the little boys in the hostel.
We took him to the hospital and the doctors confirmed that he has been sexually molested. Now when he sleeps, there’s shit in his pants, when he eats, he cannot chew, his jaws are aching. Just one term this boy spent in the school, they said he has to do surgery in his anus, even MRI which we cannot afford.”
Meanwhile, the Nation reported that the government launched an investigation into the matter but found nothing.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, a full investigation, involving the DSS, who did surveillance for ten days, had been carried out. He explained that 64 parents were called to find out if their children were abused but there was no such care.
“We did 40 examinations today physically with their parents, covered no such single case out of the 40 that we did today. Medical doctors and gynecologists, did the test today and not a single case have been found”, he said.
However, investigation is still ongoing.
