People Are Arguing About A 17-Year Old Girl Who Was Sent To Study Medicine In Russia But Got Pregnant Some Months After

The story of a 17-year old girl has started a conversation on twitter and the question is, “should a young girl be allowed to travel abroad alone?”

A twitter user, @irorere_edith, shared the story of her young cousin, who was sent to Russia to study Medicine but got pregnant for a 20-year old 4th year student.

According to her, her young cousin is less than a year and her mum is so angry that she has blocked her daughter on Whatsapp and won’t even answer the pleadings from family members.

So, she urged parents not to send minors abroad alone as they are always intoxicated by the freedom they get.

Read her tweet here

I repeat never send a minor abroad to study on her own without a guardian…my 17 yrs old cousin who is in Russia studying Medicine now 4 months pregnant.. the school hospital need 600 usd to terminate the pregnancy… she called her mum her mum blocked her on whtapp

She’s less than a yr in Russia, I advise she go back to Nigeria.. she said her mum won’t allow her go back to sch.. she said she will commit suicide if her mum don’t come through for her. I called her mum more than 20 times yesterday to beg her she’s nt taking my calls either..

Again Parents don’t send ur minor abroad to study, the freedom they get outside Nigeria is intoxicating.. my auntie has learnt in a v hard way.. I hope she get over it and come through her daughter really soon!

As expected, Nigerians have shared their thoughts on the situation and while some chastised the young girl, saying she should be allowed to have the baby and learn the hard way, some think that there are women who traveled alone at a very young age but didn’t misbehave. According to these people, the young girl is wayward.

Is nt unfortunate when u don’t teach ur children how to take decision giving them freedom that can’t be handled that’s what happens, u don’t send a child that can’t even chew bones smoothly to live on her own without thinking when those feelings grows how she will. Say no even in the face of it. Why is the mother blocking her pls? It’s everywhere na. At least stay with thst child for some days before u leave her to start schooling

Rubbish! Stupid girl. A 16 year old girl who happens to be one of my customers went to Swansea UK to study about 5 years ago without a guardian. She came back successfully to Nigeria and did her NYSC. No pregnancy, no criminal record, and she’s still as well behaved as ever. I blame the girl, and the parents should share in the blame too.

      April 24, 2019 at 2:50 pm

Ahmed Oyiza Nafisah The mother needs to forgive her and bring her close. She can have the baby, the mother takes the baby after one year and train the child so the daughter can continue her education. I’m not in support of aborting a four months old pregnancy. With the right care and help, a 17 year old can deliver safely.

Train up your child in the right way, bible said it ooo but instead mummy is sleeping on Instagram everyday and allows her daughter to behave anyhow…..
A lizard in Nigeria can never become an alligator in Russia period..
Some godly trained children still make it alone in Russia.

They re too young, it’s at the teen years that daughters need their mothers. It’s societal pressure, everyone wants to boast about having graduates @ 20 bla bla , look at this poor child now in a dilemma! She was even clueless about safe sex since she couldn’t abstain

My sister travelled alone at 16 to further her education and has today received lots of accolade and award of recognition based on her academic success. It has absolutely nothing to do with age dear poster, stop excusing the lack of discipline in your cousin. That is it, your cousin lack self discipline. Older people can make same mistake as well

All this one is story, shey she wants to enjoy adulthood at 17, she should be left to give birth and experience Real adulthood abi she tot it was all about going to clubs, what has abroad done people send their children to all parts of nigeria without guardians abi there are no guys in nigerian universities, a wayward child is a wayward child, if she had gone to unilag it will still be the same thing….Some people left with scholarship at the age of 16, they went there started schooling and working at the same thing and even send money home.
