How Bukky Asehinde Built Bellafricana – A Thriving Community For Creative African-Owned Businesses

Bukky Asehinde popularly known as the “Creatives Mother Hen” is a passionate entrepreneur who is obsessed with enabling and growing an ecosystem for creative entrepreneurs to thrive in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

She is the founder of Bellafricana, a tech-enabled community for Nigerian and African Creative entrepreneurs. She also founded an initiative called African Creative Exhibition and Awards (termed ACE Awards) to celebrate creativity and innovation in Nigeria and the whole of Africa.

Bukky is listed as one of the 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria in 2018 by the Leading Ladies Africa in honour of her great strides and commendable impact and selected by Business Day in 2019 as one of the 50 most inspiring women in Nigeria.

Why She Started Bellafricana

When I was thinking of birthing the Bellafricana idea, I initially thought of the importance of a strong support system for creative businesses, hence why the community is called “creative family” and now referred to as “Home to creative entrepreneurs”. It was so intentional.

Bellafricana was built out of the need to ensure creative businesses do not feel like they are doing business alone without the resources and support they need.

It is a tech-enabled community that provides a platform for creative entrepreneurs in the fashion, arts & craft, health & beauty, home & living, food produce & snacks industry, to gain visibility, increase sales, have the right business support and structure that gives them the capacity to grow their business.

I believe very much that a support group/community for these businesses will enhance the non-oil export in the African economy. Bellafricana is that “support system” every creative business owner needs to be globally accessible.

How Bellafricana Is Changing Lives

There are many creative entrepreneurs in their network recording successes based on the support and resources they have access to. Below are some of them.

» Princess Adeyinka-tekenah, who was part of the top 50 finalists for Jack Ma, Africa Business Hero’s Grant.

» Amara Njokwu of Ola House of Accessories, and Mabel George of Apoti Lagos were interviewed on Hip Tv – Spotlighting Creative Entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

» Inioluwa Adegoke of Icraft won in the manufacturing and logistics from 25 under 25 courtesy SME 100 Africa. 2020.

» Achenyo Idachaba-Obaro of Mitimeth was selected as a finalist for the NY now best-emerging brand award 2020.

They are also members who were able to launch their physical shops despite the pandemic such as Funmi Arogundade of Butterfly by Aeshaa and Tiwalola Ogungbe of Tiwi home fragrances. Their success stories are numerous and endless.

How Bellafricana Can Help You

Bellafricana provides members with broad and specific business resources, such as:

» Online membership platform where members are given business support, given access to an extensive library of live/pre-recorded masterclasses, tools and resources to grow a successful creative business.

» Online directory where consumers globally can find listed businesses via SEO and ads traffic. This helps in providing visibility for creative Africa-owned businesses.

» Online marketplace where merchants get access to market, Bellafricana merchandises, sells products and takes a commission.

»African Creative Exhibition and Awards recognises the best creative African minds in the fields of arts and craft, fashion, manufacturing, beauty and food produce.
