Olajumoke Abdullahi and Kym Oliver are women living with disabilities in the UK. These vloggers are fighting discrimination and trying to take back the word, ‘cripple.’
Olajumoke, who is a Nigerian has polio, while Kym, a Ghanaian, has multiple sclerosis. The women told BBCMinute that they have experienced discrimination because they are black women with disabilities.
“I’ve experienced more racism since I’ve been on a wheelchair than I’ve ever experienced in my entire life,” Kym says.
They created The Tripple Cripples, a groundbreaking platform for and by disabled, black & non-black, women, femmes & non-Binary POC! Here women talk about themselves and the issues that black women with disabilities face.
“We are trying to show the world at large that we are here and we’re not going to be ignored any longer” Olajumoke noted.
